Samuel (Sammy) Newton Obituary

Mr. Samuel Rayford Newton, 76, of Valley Alabama, passed away on February 23, 2026.

He is survived by his wife, Marilyn Newton; daughters, Kim Osburn (Joel) and Christy Coggin Davis; grandchildren, Samantha Osburn, Nikki Osburn, Mary Elizabeth Osburn, Dalton Arrington, Destiny Arrington, Anthony Coggin, Hali Whatley (father, Ernest Whatley), and younger siblings; Great granddaughter, Lauren Daniel. Brothers, Randy Newton and Andy Newton (Wanda), and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Rayford and Frances Newton of Riverview; daughter, Misti Arrington (Morris widower of Misti). brothers, Eddie Newton (Alma) and Nathan Newton, sister-in-law, Debbie Newton.

Mr. Newton was born on January the 27th of 1950.

He attended Valley High School and graduated from Southern Union State Community College with an associate degree in Applied Science.

He was a decorated veteran who served in the Vietnam War. He retired from the Armed Forces full time National Guard in 1996 after 20 years of continued service to his country, worked a few years with Anderson Construction at West Point Lake, and was a volunteer firefighter. He served as treasurer of the American Legion Post 67 and was a master of radio communications.

He enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing, and playing his guitar. He was truly a friendly and generous person that enjoyed serving his community. He was greatly loved by his friends and family.

Graveside Services will be held on Thursday, March 5th, 2026, at 11:00 AM (EST) at Fairview Cemetery in Valley, Alabama. Reverend Stephen McClain will officiate the service.
